What is Microcurrent?
Used by athletes and celebrities, microcurrent therapy is the most talked about non-invasive solution to look and feel younger. We are excited to offer microcurrent therapy in Minneapolis!
Microcurrent is a clinically tested therapy treatment, and one of the hottest innovations in the anti-aging industry. It is used in top spas and medical offices for facial contouring, toning and firming of aging skin. Microcurrent is a low-level current that mimics the body’s natural current and can provide both instant and cumulative anti-aging results. Because it works sub-sensory, the treatment is soothing and most clients feel nothing at all.
Origin of Microcurrent Therapy Treatments
Microcurrent has been used since the 1980s and was originally approved by the FDA as a muscle stimulator. The most profound microcurrent treatments were originally discovered with patients experiencing a form of nerve-paralysis, leading to atrophied, sagging facial muscles known as Bell’s Palsy. The cause of Bell’s Palsy is unclear. With the discovery of microcurrent therapy treatments and their low-level current retraining the patient’s muscles, the FDA approved muscle stimulator provided a new anti-aging application for the cosmetology industry.
How Does Microcurrent Work?
Microcurrent is capable of facial stimulation, sending soft, gentle waves through the skin, tissues and down to the facial muscles. Microcurrent has been shown to stimulate ATP production. ATP is known as Adenosine triphosphate which drives the creation of key structural proteins, such as collagen and elastin, and is the biochemical way to store and use energy.
This increased ATP also energizes the facial muscles, similar to how exercise energizes the muscles of our bodies. Unlike anywhere else on the body, the facial muscles are directly connected to the skin, so the result of energizing the muscle is often an improved, lifted appearance
When applied to the skin, the gentle electrical current rehabilitates the underlying muscles and improves circulation, texture, tone, and fine lines. Regular use of microcurrent will continue to provide muscle strength and restore freshness to the appearance. The technology works internally on the muscle fiber and tissue for visible, external results – it’s like taking your face to the gym!

Can Botox and Microcurrent work together?
Botox paralyzes the muscle to prevent or release wrinkles. Microcurrent stimulates the muscle with electrical current to keep it young and limber. When microcurrent is done correctly it develops new collagen and elastin. Where microcurrent works the muscle, Botox relaxes. Fillers will fill in a line or add volume, but not be able to naturally sculpt and define large areas. Microcurrent can fix what Botox and fillers can’t. Commitment is key!
How many sessions will I need?
Typically, one treatment per week for six weeks will produce incredible results. For people with more severe conditions, more treatments may be needed. For maintenance, it is recommended to come in 1-2 times per month.
How long does each session last?
Each session is about one hour.
How much do Microcurrent sessions cost?
Each session is $150.00 for face and neck. It is not recommended to only purchase one session as the skin will eventually go back to its original state. Think of these treatments as exercise—the muscles don’t stay strong unless they are regularly used! For best results, it is advised to have one treatment per week for six weeks and a six week treatment package is $750.00. How is this different than Microchanneling or Fibroblast?
Microchanneling and Fibroblast improve the skin, not muscles. These are great for treating conditions such as acne scarring, dark spots, sagging skin, and overall skin clarity and rejuvination. Microcurrent facials are recommended when the muscles need to be targeted. If you’re wondering what treatment is best for you, call our office at 760-799-5295 for a free consultation.
